FIVE THOUSAND STARS!!!!!!

This romantasy book has thoroughly destroyed me... I'd give it 1,000 stars if I could. But I'll settle for the limits set upon me by polite society. 5 stars.

I write spoiler-free reviews, so it is hard to explain why I love this book so much. But I'll try.

The book blurb promises you betrayal. And tension. And hints at enemies to (maybe) lovers? But I promise you: whatever you think this book is, you're wrong. You're probably also right, too. It is a rollercoaster of epic proportions, and as soon as I finish this review, I fully intend to reread (ride) it again, my TBR be damned!

Our lead, Mayah, is strong, brave, and spunky. She's complicated in a way that you rarely see (done convincingly) in novels. She is the FMC you can root for, even when you're pulling your hair out wondering why she makes the choices she does. I want to be her when I grow up. Especially the magic part.

Speaking of magic, I found the magic system extremely fascinating... how entire countries' personalities are formed around their dominant magic traits and their views on non-wielders. I love that they even had their own derisive nickname for the "muggles," to show that their class system is entrenched in their beliefs around magic. This world was so well-developed. It felt real.

Thank you to the author and the Iris Society for giving me an advance copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. I cannot adequately express how much this book changed me, and it is all thanks to you.
