A Tale of Cursed Tides by T.R. Sherring Romantasy book cover

What. Even. Is. This. Book!?

4.5 stars, rounded up.

Ok, so I was just sitting here, minding my own business while reading a Little Mermaid retelling when BAM! My romantasy became a murder mystery!!! So it went from being a fun read to being one of those I-have-to-know-whodunit-right-now books! Was not expecting to be sucked in so hard or so fast approximately one third of the way through the dang book!

I really enjoyed this one... even when you think it's predictable, it's not. You think you know who the bad guy is? Cool... but the WHY is important too (not to sound too much like Hugo... IYKYK). And you won't guess it. I promise. Just stop trying and enjoy the ride.

Oh! And how the entire plot weaves back in on itself... brava, Ms. Sherring! Brava!

I'm deducting a half star (half-heartedly), because the romance needed more tension. Explaining more will spoil some of the book, so I'm just gonna leave that there, and we'll talk in my Book 2 review, mmmkay?

Thanks to the author for providing an advance copy for me to read! My opinions are 100% my own.

ABOUT:

A mermaid’s curse.

A witch’s bargain.

A prince’s heart.

Mermaid Princess Alara’s kingdom is cursed.

No one has been able to enter or leave in over two decades and tensions amongst her subjects are rising. On the eve of her twenty-second birthday, the witch who cast the curse appears and offers to undo it all, but only if Alara can make a mortal prince fall in love with her, then break his heart before the next full moon.

It’s almost too easy.

Shortly after she arrives in the mortal lands, a gruesome murder is committed at the castle, and Alara becomes tangled in a mystery she never asked for.

As the body count rises, so do the stakes, and she’s running out of ways to ignore her growing feelings for the prince.

With the full moon looming, and a killer closing in, will this fairy tale end with more than just a broken heart?

With hints of The Little Mermaid, this is book one in a new romantasy series perfect for readers who love:

  • Morally grey FMCs

  • Secret identity

  • Fake seduction

  • Court intrigue

  • He falls first

  • Slow-burn spice

  • Found family

A Tale of Cursed Tides is a must read for fans of Sarah J Maas, Jennifer L Armentrout and Sarah A. Parker.
